July 21, 2023
8:00 pm
Rafay Rashid, born in Islamabad, Pakistan and based in Providence, Rhode Island, makes experimental pop songs that are confessional, ecstatic, and confrontational. His writing emerges as a response to growing up a Muslim kid in a post 9/11 America. Ravi Shavi, the name of his band, became a persona and vehicle for both radical healing and punk empowerment as he crafted a niche amidst the experimental noise and folk music scenes of Providence, Rhode Island in the late 00’s. babybaby_explores (the Reasons Why that Gum is Still on the Sidewalk), is a pseudo concept, garage-pop, art-rock project made of three fweaky BFFS from the ghost town clam chowder suburbia Warwick, RI. Utilizing obsolete and low-tech gear, the band makes simple structured danceable songs that pay homage to: musique concrète, European underground synth punk of the late 70’s through the 80's, anthem music, dada, and the Providence DIY & noise scene.
