Orchestre Tout Puissant Marcel Duchamp with DakouDakou
Tuesday, July 1, 2025
8:00 pm
to
Founded in 2006 in Geneva, 90 years after Dada, by Vincent Bertholet (Hyperculte), the 12- piece Orchestre Tout Puissant Marcel Duchamp has released 5 albums on the highly influential Bongo Joe Records and played the European festival circuit for years. This will be their second attempt to conquer America – following the release of the latest album, Ventre Unique. The band’s name is an homage to some of the classic Congolese groups (Orchestre Tout Puissant Konono n°1, Orchestre Tout Puissant Polyrytmo, TPOK Jazz etc...) and to one of the greatest provocateurs of 20th century art. Their music mixes echoes of The Ex, Moondog, kraut rock, minimalism, high life, symphonic touches and punk outbursts - and yet, none of it is terribly relevant: OTPMD has managed to invent its own reality – or, if you prefer, a simulation. Their live performances are mesmerizing affairs with an almost ritualistic slant and arrangements so tight they seem to re-organize chaos itself.

'Otherworld' is a love letter to the ways we create ourselves and each other, again and again, across thresholds both visible and unseen. Eli Kauffman and J Rowen O’Dwyer bring together vivid, psychologically charged paintings that explore the threshold between the physical and the mythic, the home and the holy. Their work charts the sacred rituals of queer life — from moments of pleasure to acts of care, devotion, and transformation. The home becomes a site of alchemy, the body a threshold, and queer experiences a mirror and a myth in constant renewal. The outside world serves as a mirror, a set on which to explore new versions of ourselves, and fill unexpected roles. Images drawn from play, intimacy, domesticity, and community shift between documentation and dream, honoring both the rawness and the magic of trans and queer existence. Otherworld refers to myths and realms in legends, but also to the term “Otherworldly” describing the uncanny nature of otherness, leaving the door open to new realms, for those considered outcast.

Sweet mother of all things, Whore Paint got honest to Jesus vinyl records in. Come celebrate this record in the very place of it's birth, Machines With Magnets. Time will tell!) Fabulous also local support=kings of banter and matching pants BED DEATH. Bed Death is Whore Paint's favorite band. Trust us on this one. RECTRIX JUST ADDED! "2017: Let's Give It A Shot"
DREW MCDOWALL - "Drew McDowall started out making music in Glasgow in 1978, playing in punk group The Poems with his then wife Rose McDowall (who would go on to form Strawberry Switchblade). In the early 1980s McDowall relocated to London and became involved in the industrial scene there, working with Genesis P-Orridge and Psychic TV, then later with Sleazy Pete Christopherson and John Balance in Coil. McDowall has lived in New York for the past decade, regularly collaborating with Tres Warren in their project Compound Eye, as well as doing production work." HIRO KONE - "Hiro Kone is an Iroquois phrase that means “I have spoken,” and it’s also the alias of Nicky Mao, formerly of Effi Briest and Up Died Sound. As Hiro Kone, Mao certainly speaks, fusing rich, melodramatic vocals with synth swells and electronic percussion that ranges from skittering to propulsive, all with hints of her former bands’ psych experiments." With local support from: HUMANBEAST & TIMEGHOST.
Thaw yourselves out mid-winter and melt into a singular mass on our floor with this techno vitality cleanse, featuring live sets by producers from Lost Soul Enterprises, Borfft, Cititrax, and More Records: ROSE E KROSS (Katie O'Sullivan of Further Reductions), RICHARD GAMBLE, BERGSONIST, WORLD WAR, ISABELLA & DJ SCOTT MURAKAMI all night.
BOY HARSHER returns
"Jae Matthews and Augustus Muller have been doing Boy Harsher for a little while now, constantly honing their craft of danceable bleakness and etching their name in the wall of electronic music. Unrelenting rhythm sections match with addictively dark synth compositions and curiously ominous vocals, to make for a sound as disconcerting as it is intoxicating." With THE WHEAL, from France:
"Initially a one-off performance act combining visual arts and found-sound, The Wheal has evolved into a full-fledged music project whose lineage traces back to early 80's industrial and synth-pop bands as well as modern day electronics. From heavy drum-machine and synthetic bass-lines to ritual/ambient sequences, The Wheal's dark romanticism is equal parts channeling live energies and blissfull introspection." Supported by these local acts: LINGUA IGNOTA, KURT SNELL, STRAP-ON RITUAL, and DJ MUSCLE ACADEMY (Dylan Going of Houseboy).
Traveling from Philadelphia:
SHARLYN EVERTSZ "Evertsz, formerly of confrontational noise collective The Laundry Room Squelchers, bleeds genuine ferocity. Her troubling, beat driven noise blasts brains with PE-strength and noise-punk operatics, hovering carefully between sensibilities in synth-based constructions and cacophonous free improv. She is originally from Miami, Florida and now lives in Philadelphia." ANDY BORSZ "Andy Borsz has played enough noise fests to have a pair of shoes specifically for stepping in piss. Eschewing a project moniker he approaches solo performance like a naked ape, deliberately forgetting and relearning every time on stage. The familiar maximal approaches and harsh broods of his collaboration work are always present but often the unexpected is as well: an a cappella Johnny Cash cover, The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People, a spontaneous meditation on the inside of a drum." With local support from:
Valerie Martino, Bird Lady, Oxomo & DJ YU//F.

FORCED INTO FEMININITY (Chicago)
"Forced Into Femininity has been the "marxist body horror act" of performance artist and musician Jill Lloyd Flanagan for 9 years. Jill is known for playing in the bands Coughs (Load Records), 2watt, Gula-Gila, and more. The music of Forced Into Femininity is a mix of asymmetrically assembled beats, strange electronic outbursts, and of course Jill's arresting vocal style. It has that truly rare quality of being unlike anything else." with local support:

Machines with Magnets presents a great show of experimental sounds: from near and far:
ANDRIA PENESADOE* (Argentina)
"AP works with sound as a performer and programer. She has been using digital media and live interactive musical systems since 1995... Harsh dense layers of sounds, often interwoven with her voice, combine hybrid synthesis techniques to create a highly personal sound language, which reflects an intuitive, emotional and paradoxically also logical approach to music making." ASPAKT* (Italy)
"An Italian duo working with electro-acoustic instruments, digital devices and systems of feedback and resonance, their music shares the timbral research and execution typical of radical improv music. The result is a fascinating and inextricable forest of sounds: frenetic structures, noise explosions, ancestral cries, an unceasing perversion of soundscapes and time." With local support from:
UNIVERSAL CELL UNLOCK and
RETRIBUTION BODY.
A much needed dose of reality and perspective after a few unrealistic weeks, the legendary Ian Svenonius (the mind that brought you Nation of Ulysses, The Make Up & Chain and the Gang) returns to Machines with Magnets with ESCAPE-ISM. Also touring is Michigander (and member of Tyvek) Shelley Salant performing as SHELLS. Beautifully cosmic, droney solo guitar musings and meditations. Local heroes, famous Load Records recording artists, recent mothers and/or homeowners, your friends and mine the inimitable WHORE PAINT in their first show defending against the patriarchy since... a real long while? And what a goddamn pleasure it is to bring to you our dearest bud––local mystic, greatest thinking, and rare performer Natalja Kent; gracing us with the presence of QUERENT AT THE MIRROR DOOR. It’s another lovely evening in Pawtucket, folks. On the eve of December 7th, 2016, we plan to have libations. We welcome your attendance.
Bellerophon - Winner of the #Dorry for Electronic Act of the Year; Favourite - Electronic dream-pop on the rocks for dancefloor lovers; Timelapzzz (Philadelphia, PA) Haze and thick low end; Straw Man Standing - Frantic synth-pop from the woods | ep release, and The Music Please - Winners of the #Dorry for DJs of the Year
